sketchbook

Pages from my sketchbooks.  I love just sitting and sketching - keeps me quiet for hours. Just watching people move, the way they sit and interact with each other and fit in with their surroundings. Would you like to join me on a sketching trip to Panama - contact me  Now!

A recent to visit to Goa turned out to be very inspiring, especially

for sketching. Too hot to sit out painting!

Most of my sketches are made using a black ball-point pen.

I use a book with a heavier paper so that I can add colours then

or at a later stage if I feel it justifies it.

Anjuna Market.  This is a famous market started by hippies in the 70's

It now covers several acres of land and on the beach.

We were sat in a bar, on the beach, from where I did this little study.

Colour was added later

ANJUNA MARKET

In Goa there were many visitors from the UK,

Germany and Russia.

Games on the beach, for most, was cars or dominoes

DONNA PULA BEACH

In a beach side restaurant further down the coast on the Indian Ocean.

This was very sofisticated as they provide a shower

for people coming off the beach.

BEACH IN GOA Kopie

Definitely NOT upmarket bar on Donna Paula Beach,

where the fishermen bring in their catch,

then relax at the bar. A couple are playing dominoes

which seems to be an international occupation.

FISHERMEN'S INN GOA

A change here - this is a beach on the Pacific coast of Panama.

Lifestyles very much the same.

Many more Hamacas (Hammacks) and thatched bohios (boeeos).

The beer's just as good, of course, and very cold.  The best when you are hot.

BEACHSIDE SANTA CLARA

What better way to spend you time when your flight is delayed.

I had an extra unexpected 4 hours..

Another opportunity to study the human form and

peoples attitudes and moods.

FLIGHT DELAYED

Santa Clara beach Restaurant. Burnt down last January.

This was so sad. A fabulous place.  Cobbled together with tree-trunks

and wooden tables and chairs. Thatched roof covering and under them rooms to rent.

Right on the beach. Unfortunately, all the rooms have gone and

the restaurant is covered with  tarpauline! Not very inspiring..

Apparently the plan is to re-develop the whole area

with highrise buildings for another "resort".  Very sad -

they  must leave some of the old heritage for us to enjoy

NEW KIND OF TABLE

This staircase was lost in the fire -although not

to be trusted before; it was very rusty .

All part of the atmosphere

RUSTY STAIRWAY SANTA CLARA

I drew and painted this whilst staying at Playa Blanca - a resort

further down the coast. Great swimming pools

and a bar & restaurants right on the beach .

Excellent large rooms with balconies. Very good, very reasonable

"Twinkle Awaiting her turn"

I did a series of sketches for the Contemporary

Dance Studio in Waterloo.

Although not strictly from my sketch book -

I used pen with ink a brush and water.

WAITING TWINKLE

For this sketch produced at the UpTown Waterloo Jazz Festival I

used a Staedtler Mars Graphic duo pen. Sadly not produced any more.

I loved the black as when wetted, the individual colours

separated into yellows, browns and blues.

Sketching for the Jazz Festivals illustrations often gave me a

different perspective point.

Again I used the Staedtler pen here with the

additon of a little white acrylic, on grey paper
